This is an update on the current COVID-19 situation and how it impacts you.

Business as usual for Greenstone’s Licensed Immigration Advisers and Recruiters

Your rights as a visa holder during the Covid-19 crisis

Also, we would like to make you aware that all work visa holders are eligible for the wage subsidy during self isolation, if they are sick or if their employer qualifies for the wage subsidy due to a reduction of income.  Furthermore, there are some special instances where migrant workers will be entitled to free healthcare.  Covid-19 is now registered as an infectious or quarantinable disease under the New Zealand Health Act 1956.  This means that all people in New Zealand, regardless of their visa status, are eligible for publicly funded services to treat Covid-19,

Immigration New Zealand processes

The main points relating to Immigration in terms of applications are as follows:

  1. If you are in New Zealand and have a visitor, work or student visa expiring between 1 April and 9 July 2020, the visa will automatically be extended until 25 September 2020. A confirmation of this visa extension will be emailed to you. If you do not receive one, please contact us.
  2.  The visa extension does not apply to residence visas, or those located overseas.
  3.  The visa extension will have the same conditions as your current visa
  4. If you need to change your visa conditions (for example a new job), then you should be applying for a new visa or variation of conditions as normal.

Please also be aware that Immigration NZ is operating with a skeleton staff, and will be focusing on priority applications, particularly those related to COVID-19 and essential services. Their contact centre will be slower than usual to respond, and will be focusing on urgent or priority cases.

The Greenstone team wish you all the best during this lockdown period. Stay safe and well. We look forward to continuing to assist you with any immigration concerns or needs.
